Take the example of MP3 players. There are literally dozens of different brand names in the field of MP3 players. Yet, the overwhelming majority of people think of the Apple IPOD when they think of MP3 manufacturers. Sure, there are many other companies and some of their products may be just as good. None of their names stand out, though.

The same was true in the 1980’s with the Sony Walkman. No matter what brand your Walkman was, it was referred to as if it were a Sony. Why? Because that company was the one that made the first impression on Americans and made the personal cassette player a household item.

Throughout history, we have become conditioned to remember only the names of companies and individuals who have made themselves stand out from the crowd. This is a key when you are attempting to make significant advances in your career or business.
